Ben has returned home to his native New England roots to continue his dogged pursuit of excellence in both the civic and the athletic arenas. In addition to running the roads, trails and tracks of his undergraduate days at Dartmouth College in preparation for the upcoming Olympic Trials, Ben is also an integral part of one of In the Arena's most successful start-up programs: a collaborative after-school XC initiative at Indian River Middle School (IRS) in Enfield, NH in which 27 middle school student-athletes participated in the fall of 2011, thereby increasing by 50% the total number of IRS students electing to participate in after-school sports. Ben coached the more than two dozen students through regular weekly practices --including their standard weekly "Ice Cream Run" in which those students who ran eight miles or farther earned ice cream sundaes --and a number of weekend races at which all program participants showed marked improvement as the fall unfolded. Ben will continue to coach young runners in the Upper Valley throughout the winter and will return to IRS in the spring to work with students there on XC and track and field specific goals.
